The Columbus Blue Jackets take on the Boston Bruins tonight in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
After sweeping the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round, Columbus advanced to Round 2 for the first time in franchise history. Now battling the Boston Bruins, it’s been a long road for the boys in blue and it could be their last.
Dundunduuuuuun.
Saturday night, 'Lumbus lost to the Bruins giving them the upper hand. Boston now leads the series 3-2.
Really wish that were us on the winning side of things.
Regardless, Tortellini feels confident they can push it to Game 7.
In Saturday’s game, we were able to tie it up in the final 10 minutes. They overcame a two-goal deficit and things were going smoothly. That is until Boston was able to steal a goal and the game with 1:28 left to play.
Did I mention I hate Boston?
The game didn’t really get going until the third period when both teams were looking for a fight. Jonesy was finally able to light a fire under the Jackets' asses with a goal of his own. The goal required video review but they allowed it.
Boston is still salty.
The Blue Jackets rallied behind Seth and were able to score three times in 3:25.
“I thought we loosened our mentality a bit and started making a few more plays. Our desperation came out and we had some different line combos and that seemed to spark us a bit,” Duchy said after the game.
History has shown that whoever wins Game 5 in a 2-2 series typically goes on to win the series and beat out the other team. However, Boston knows that isn’t always the case as they fell in Game 5 in their opening series against Toronto.
The Bruins fought back in Game 6 though and were able to defeat the Leafs to push it to Game 7. They ultimately won the series which led to them taking on the Jackets.
“It’s a great opportunity. They’re gonna have their best game, their backs are against the wall. They’re playing at home, they’re gonna have a lot of energy and come out hard. We’ve got to do the same. We’ve got to continue to play our game,” noted Boston forward Charlie Coyle.
Take a look at the NHL's recap of the game:
In order for Columbus to defeat the Bruins in tonight’s matchup, they have to start fast and score first. They also need to start creating more plays and getting pucks to the net. They went 50 minutes in Game 5 without a goal because Rask was able to easily swat away any puck.
And finally, they have to tighten their defense! They had some good opportunities in the last game, but ultimately gave up too many scoring chances to Boston.
The Bruins now have four goals in consecutive games. If Columbus wants to advance, they have to play a full 60 minute game.
Do you know how mad I will be if I have to see that little rat-nosed Marchand celebrating? Mama will not be a happy camper.
Can the Jackets force the series into Game 7? Let me know what you think below!
