Oil Spill

Moving right along from the dumpster-fire that was the game against Calgary, Columbus is back for round two against Edmonton.

I don’t want to spend too much time on their previous match up, but let’s just say the wrong team got a shutout.

The Calgary game was a little better with Columbus at least making it on the board.

Zach gave the Jackets the lead about halfway through the first period, but Johnny Hockey and Andrew Mangiapane quickly put Calgary ahead.

Michael Frolik gained another point for the Canadian team 35 seconds into the second period, and people could guess how this one was going to end.

There was a glimmer of hope though! Oliver Bjorkstrand cut the deficit to one with the second Jackets goal of the night, but it was all for naught. Torts decided to pull the goalie and Mikael Tkachuk got an empty netter to bring the final score in Calgary to 4-2.

Not ideal circumstances as this was a pretty important match up.

The boys in blue have a seven-game stretch in which they’re playing teams that are either definitely in the Playoffs or very probably will be there. To make things even more complicated, they’re all Metro Division teams.

"We've had a tough schedule, but if you want to make the playoffs and you want to do damage in the playoffs, those are the teams you have to beat,” says defenseman Scott Harrington. “It's great to prepare us for what's potentially upcoming and where we want to be."

Okay, so the best-team-in-the-league-don’t-@-me isn’t doing so hot. But they at least still have their playoff spot. For the moment.

They’ve kept their second wildcard position, but just barely. Columbus is holding on to 84 points, but Montreal is only one point behind them.

With only nine games left in the regular season, there’s no room for error.

Like I said, Columbus learned the hard way that Edmonton is not a team to sniff at. But at least ETown isn’t doing so hot either, right?

The Oilers are the only team Columbus has played in awhile who are not playoff bound. In fact, of the nine games remaining, only three of them will be against playoff teams.

A few people of note will be out against Calgary tonight. Nick Foligno is still missing in action after he had to deal with a family matter (not involving Milana, thankfully).

Bob will also be MIA but there’s no information on his absence. Torts will only say he’s being “nicked.”

Yikes. Anyway, Korpi will play with Kinkaid backing him.

Let’s go Jackets!

Do you think we can maintain our playoff spot or will the Oilers damage their chances? Let me know down below!
