On Monday, Columbus took on the Washington Capitals and they received an absolute ass-kicking. The Jackets failed to register a single goal in the game, and lost by four.
To say John Tortorella was upset is a drastic understatement. He forced the team into overtime during their practice, drowned them in videos.
"Let's not call it a reset anymore because the reset is when we're embarrassed in our building and then we played a decent game," Tortorella said Friday after a brisk half-hour practice at Nationwide Arena.
Following their embarrassing loss, Columbus fought the Vancouver Canucks and well, they lost again. But this time, it was an admirable fight and they lost with honor. Disappointing nevertheless, but it was a step in the right direction.
A victory final came when the LA Kings rode into town. Columbus was able to maintain their lead the entirety of the game and outscored them considerably. The final had a win on home-ice as the Kings fell 4-1.
Another positive was Lukas Sedlak finally securing a goal. Sedlak scoring meant that each player on the active roster has gotten a goal this season. Never without a smile, Sedlak was ecstatic to have gotten the point. He had gone more than 50 games without a goal.
On the other hand, Pierre-Luc Dubois can’t seem to catch a break. He’s gone without a goal in five games. He had some solid chances in the game against LA, but failed to deliver.
In preparation for tonight’s game, Tortellini held another 30 minute practice. His plan is to keep the same lines as he had against LA with Anthony Duclair as a healthy scratch again.
"My situation with Duke right now isn't his skill," Tortorella said of the forward who has eight goals and four assists on the season. "I want him to be a skilled guy, and I'm not going to worry about mistakes with his skill. I want to see the determination, and that's where I think there's a little bit of a road in between us there, defining what competing and determination is.
"We're going to keep working with him. He's going to have to wait his turn now.”
