After an unbelievable game 2, Columbus is back on home ice with double victories.
Game 2 had to be settled in overtime, and it was a wild ride from start to finish.
Washington started off the scoring early in the opening period. Jay Beagle scored his first goal of this season's playoffs 2 minutes into the opening period. Alexander Ovechkin all scored over halfway through.
Cam Atkinson was able to cut the deficit with a goal of his own before the period was out. Unfortunately, Ovechkin got another goal to start off the second period.
The game started to get aggressive at this point. Nothing was being called, but the boys were handling it themselves. Josh Anderson actually got to stick around this game after playing only 4 minutes in game one, and it worked out in Columbus' favor; the young forward scored his first goal of the playoffs five minutes after Ovechkin.
The Jackets were finally able to tie up the game with another goal from Cam Atkinson. Shortly thereafter, Zach Werenski put Columbus in the lead.
After an action-filled third period,TJ Oshie tied it up for the Capitals and forced it into overtime.
It was an intense 20 minutes, play going end-to-end, and both teams fighting for their lives.
Five minutes in, no score. 10 nothing. The hockey world watched with bated breath as the seconds clicked on. 12 minutes. GOAL.
At 12:25, Matt Calvert scored the game-winning-goal. Washington reviewed the goal for offsides, but the ruling on the ice remained: we had a good goal.
Columbus is coming home with a two game win streak, and they’re already hearing from the crowd.
Holtby will start for Washington and Bob will continue guarding Columbus’ castle.
The boys need to make sure they stay out of the box as that lead to three different goals for the Caps in the last game. They’re outstanding when it’s 5-on-5 so they need to remain disciplined.
