Coming off a near perfect game, the Blue Jackets finish off their Canadian road trip in Vancouver.
Columbus had Friday off after defeating the Calgary Flames 5-1 which including a PLD hat trick.
Markus Hannikainen started off the scoring early on with the help of Matt Calvert and Mark Letestu. The goal was the 25 year old's third of the season. Pierre-Luc Dubois also scored a little over halfway through the period for his 16th goal of the season.
PLD added to his stats less than four minutes into the second assisted by his line-mates Cam Atkinson and Artemi Panarin. While the Jackets were really getting the ball rolling in Calgary, Brandon Dubinsky had to leave the game.
He was seen walking down the tunnel with one of the trainers, and it was later announced he would not be returning to the game. He fell ill during the second period, but appeared to be feeling better on Friday. He also participated in the team's optional skate that morning, and John Tortorella hopes it's just a small bug going through the locker room.
"Dubi' just didn't feel well, like a lot of our guys [who] were going through it [Thursday] night. We have a long list of guys that, just something's running through the team. But [Dubinsky] seems to be fine."
The veteran forward is expected to be back in the lineup, but if he is not, look for rookies Alex Broadhurst or Eric Robinson to take his place.
Following the second period, the Blue Jackets maintained their momentum, and Markus Nutivaara got his seventh of the season at 10:58. Dubois scored his third of the night which marks the fourth hat trick in five games for Columbus. A handful of hats found their way to the ice, but they were shoveled away quickly. This is the rookie's first NHL career hat trick.
Unfortunately, Bob didn't get the shutout when Chris Stewart scored with less than a minute left. Nevertheless, Sergei Bobrovsky got the first star of the night followed by Pierre-Luc Dubois and then Artemi Panarin.
On the opposite side of the ice, the Vancouver Canucks played the Oilers while we were in Calgary. They play the Edmonton Oilers and were able to defeat them 2-1. The Canucks re out of the playoff picture, but that doesn't mean Columbus can overlook them.
With the recent win, the Jackets have moved back into the third place spot in the Metro, and the Philadelphia Flyers trail them by only a point. With only three games left after tonight, points are absolutely everything in this tight race to post-season hockey. Columbus will host the Red Wings and then the Penguins before ending their season in Nashville on April 7.
These two teams haven't met since the trade deadline. In it, Columbus acquired Thomas Vanek and Vancouver got Jussi Jokinen and Tyler Motte, both of whom are expected in the Vancouver lineup. Last time the two clubs faced off, the Canucks won the game 5-2 at Nationwide Arena.
